A successful Maritime Summer Camp at LJM Maritime Academy!

In keeping with our vision to produce seafarers par excellence and industry leaders in the maritime domain, LJM Maritime Academy (LJMMA) introduced the maritime profession to young

Bahamians through its annual Maritime Summer Camp. The three weeks long camp ran from 27 June – 16 July 2016, and concluded with the graduation of 51 campers and an Open House for parents and visitors.

8th and 9th grade students from schools all over New Providence, not only learnt tips from professional mariners, but participated in fun team building activities and had great experiences like going on field trips to the Port, walking through a scaled ship model, steering ships on Full Mission Bridge Simulator, working with hand tools and learning tips on surviva

l at sea. Further, they were exposed to Nautical Sciences, strengthened their team building knowledge and skills through various activities and revisited concepts in Math, English and Geography.

The MSC is an annual event, so young people interested in the maritime field should plan to join us at LJMMA next summer. Individuals or groups interested in visiting the LJM Maritime Campus may contact the Academy to arrange a tour.

LJM Maritime Academy is a tertiary level maritime training institution offering approved Cadet Officer and Ratings Watch programmes. In addition, Basic and other STCW courses are offered for persons considering a maritime career, or for seafarers who are already in the career and require recertification.
